my new favorite burger.

the hubby and i went to a new place in santa monica called sonoma wine garden. he had the burger and i had a lovely salad with nectarines and burrata. was fabulous. but what i found most interesting was that they put a beet on their burger. i hate beets. hate beets! but i saw it on his burger and thought...hmmmmm....i get it. ketchup is sweet. beets are sweet. i think i see where they are going. i tried a bite, and was won over. so last night - i tried it myself. with bison. to me, ground bison is a winner. its not as gamey tasting as bison steak. and its a leaner meat than cow. its great. here's how to cook a bison burger a la martha. (cooks a little differently than cow cuz its so lean). anyways - i love blue cheese on a burger. and i thought it would be an awesome contrast to the sweet beet. in my opinion, i was right. blue cheese, bison and beets. thats it! no sauce or lettuce or any thing else. - my new favorite burger.

i love mascara. and fake eyelashes. and green eyeshadow...but thats another post. point is....au natural lashes are not my thing. i like va va voom lashes. hello i'm here lashes. look at my lashes lashes. and i love products that help me get that.

i was turned on to revitalash by a school friend 2 years ago and i havent put it down since. that stuff WORKS. i'd try latisse, except my revitalash works so well... its like steroids for your lashes.

and i feel naked without mascara. i love mac zoom lash mascara except that it has a tendency to flake. i love lancome but its wicked expensive. and then the other day i was in cvs and the lady who worked in the cosmetics section advised me to give this a try. its called falsies by maybelline. i was skeptical, but she said if i didnt love it i could return it. so i made the jump. lo and behold....love it. and the price. love that too. it lengthens, and then lengthens some more. and separates, and adds some generalized (not clumpy!) chutzpa to your lashes. thank you cvs lady!!!!!!!!!!

on a side note....why is it that for every mascara ad, the advertisers are CLEARLY using fake eyelashes. i've never met a human with lashes that look like this......even with some awesome mascara. i love that the maybelline website thinks that ANYONE would believe these eyelashes are simply the work of falsies mascara. and i love the disclaimer under the photo "Erin’s look is enhanced in post-production."

One of my favorite girlfriends went through years of cancer treatments with her mom before losing her to breast cancer 3 years ago. this girlfriend of mine learned that a get well card barely hits the mark when it comes to well wishes for a cancer patient and developed

...a 25 year old in brooklyn, who got a job as a junior designer by sending in pictures of his apartment. he may be my new hero. what an awesome use of 178 square feet! genius. seriously. even though i usually hate clutter...and excess. this guy has found a way to fit so much in one little space, and do so well!

I think i mentioned when we went to Seattle this past July and ate our way through the entire city. Really - we ate our way through Tom Douglas' restaurants. We had been watching "The Best Thing I ever Ate" on the food network and his restaurants kept showing up. So we just ate at all of them...over the course of a 4 day trip. To this day, if anyone is on their way to Seattle I tell them, at the very least, they MUST eat at Serious Pie. (ANYONE can find a minute and the budget to get pizza right?) And if they can find the time, Dahlia Lounge and Lola's will not disappoint. And one of my favorite memories was eating at his fish restaurant, Etta's. We were sitting near the front of the restaurant and a Golden Retriever stopped outside the front door, and the hostess brought him a treat. Apparently, that happens every night. I mean, seriously, does a place get more charming than that?

Anyways - i also LOVE macarons (the french style), and coconut macaroons. And this morning i was reading this AWESOME food blog, Orangette, when the subject of macaroons came up. After some internet rambling, i got here....

Turns out, Tom Douglas makes coconut macaroons, but looking over the recipe, and the picture, these look like the perfect hybrid between macarons and macaroons. Recipe is below....got it from here. Making these today.

Coconut Macaroons à la Dahlia Bakery 

Adapted from Tom’s Big Dinners, by Tom Douglas

2 large egg whites 

A pinch of salt 

2/3 cup granulated sugar 

2 Tbs unbleached all-purpose flour 

1 tsp pure vanilla extract 

2 ¼ cups sweetened shredded coconut (Seattlest prefers Baker’s “Angel Flake” brand, no doubt full of chemicals, but delicious)

Place the egg whites and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, or, alternatively, in medium mixing bowl with handheld beaters nearby. Beat the egg whites on high speed until they hold stiff peaks. Gradually add the sugar, and continue to beat the egg white mixture for a minute or two, until it is glossy and smooth. Add the flour and vanilla, and beat the mixture on medium speed to just combine. If you are using a stand mixer, remove the bowl from the machine. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold the coconut into the egg white mixture. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, and refrigerate it for 8 hours, or overnight.

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and spray the paper with cooking spray; alternatively, line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat, in which case you won’t need to grease it. Fill a small bowl with warm water, and set it nearby.

Using a round tablespoon-size measuring spoon, scoop mounds of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, about 2 inches apart. About 12-15 scoops will fit on a standard sheet. Do not flatten the batter; you want it to bake as a small mound. After each scoop, swish the measuring spoon in the bowl of warm water; this will help to keep the spoon clean and allow the sticky coconut batter to release from it more easily. When you have filled the baking sheet, bake the macaroons for 18-20 minutes, or until they are golden. Allow the macaroons to cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes; then transfer them to a rack to cool completely. Repeat the process with the remaining batter.

The finished macaroons will keep nicely for a day or two in an airtight container at room temperature, or for a couple of weeks in the freezer.

weekend projects- upholstery

a while ago - we had a chair recovered by a professional upholsterer- gorgeous wingback chair. i looked for a month for the perfect fabric, before getting frustrated and picking a green floral sort of mod-ish - looking print. anyways - it was bloody expensive. and i have a tendency to change my mind about what i like pretty often. on saturday night - i decided to attack these chairs (we have 2!) i've wanted to recover them forever but somehow, they were daunting. and i didnt want to spend another bloody fortune on them. well...until saturday night when i decided it was my (and their) time. so - away i went. i had some pink fabric i discovered in the extra bedroom recently that i had completely forgotten about. so i figured...perfect!!!!

i uncovered the bottom, unscrewed all the nuts and bolts...turns out these chairs are VERY well made. i undid about 100 staples. i got to here....

and i felt totally overwhelmed. cant tell from my crappy iphone picks - but there was some fancy wood piece i bent to heck that i believe was a key component holding this whole thing together. it was at this point i told my husband i was re-upholstering the chairs with pink fabric. (the pink fabric hanging off the kitchen table in above pic). and that i had forever ruined some key metal chair component. he suggested we go shopping for different upholstery fabric, and that i employ an upholsterer.

the next day - we went shopping and i asked which of the following 2 fun fabrics he liked....

and he picked the graphic pink one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yayayayayayayayayyayayayayayayayayay!!!!!!

so i called the upholsterer and dropped them off today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cant wait for these fun babies to get back.

i'm planning a baby shower. super excited. i have NO idea what theme to go with, but i'm charging ahead with other details. and i want to order macarons for the guest favors. you can get them at Paulette's macarons. so fun and great colors! and - i tried my first one last week at Vanilla Bake SHop and they were divine.

I've talked about the place before...here!

I actually saw this book in a magazine last week and was intrigued with the idea of making my own macarons, but i know better than to attempt that for a party.

but back to the favors. i read the following on parents.com. " Send guests home with yummy favors that are a little bit salty and a little bit sweet. Take two small cellophane party favor bags and fill one with a couple of cookies (we like Paulette Macarons since they come in cute colors like pink and green) and the other with gourmet kettle potato chips. Seal the cookie bag with a sticker reading "sweet" and the potato chip bag with a sticker reading "salty." Tie the bags together with pretty pink and green ribbons, then display the "salty & sweet" treats in shallow baskets near the door for guests to grab on their way out. "

I'm totally stealing that idea. check box 1!

so.....i discovered something else at room service. they own houses in la and palm springs. and i have a feeling a certain girlfriend of mine may be looking at some palm springs nuptials. i'm super duper hoping either i get to stay in one of these for the wedding, she rents one for a pre or post wedding-fest, or we get the pink one for a girls weekend. but whichever way....how fun would it be to rent one of these???

ist the bathroom on the right great? love the tiny marble tiles on the wall. and the bigger marble tiles on the bath.

Okay - my sister is trying to plan her future daughter's room. her husband likes lavender better than pink. i like the idea of black and white and lavender (my sister is NOT traditional girlie at all, i thought maybe she'd go for this black white lavender thing, and she did). originally i thought put a grey/purple color on the walls, but i ran across this wall paper and i love it! found here. wouldnt it be fun to have this wall paper in a little girls room with pops of purple (or pink!).

This picture i love because of the repetition. how fun to have a bunch of dangly lights instead of just 1.

this is HOPEFULLY my future bathroom inspiration. I love love love love love love love love the antiqued mirror tiles. i think i'd use rosettes where all the tiles meet (saw that on divine design last week, way cool, thank you candace!). problem is, finding these antiqued mirrors. not as easy as you'd think. although, i have read about how to antique mirrors. it includes acid. hmmmmmmmm....but i also love the chandelier. the tub, the curtain. the wood floors. sigh...

this above pic is from the black & spiro store. I dont know why its on my desktop but something about it spoke to me in the past few weeks. probably all the different prints in the same space. and the orange bamboo?? settee. i think i need something like that.

every year, we leave for christmas, and therefore i never decorate cuz i feel like its a waste. but it pains me to have no tree or decor up for the holidays. this year, we are doing it differently. we've already got lights up (**thank you love!), and there is some random decor items up, but i'm looking on the internet today and i came across this 1yr old bday party.

and the shower decor from the same lady that did the cool thanksgiving invites (here!) and i'm realizing that its cool to decorate cuz it makes ME happy when i walk in. i came to this realization cuz looking at this decor, doesnt it make the parties look so much more festive? and fun? and make you want to go? so... i'm going big.

today is decor day. i had collected a bunch of pine cones i planned on spray painting silver and sticking EVERYWHERE in the house, but left those in california. so we need to go hunting again today for some more. Also - we have a cute little family coming to house sit over the holidays so they will enjoy the tree. (WE GET TO GET A TREE!!!). and hopefully keep it from being flammable.

on a random side note, i used to have a roommate that loved getting the ugliest xmas tree on the lot and giving it a name. my last tree was when i lived with her and he was called fernando. he was sort of a sad looking charlie brown-like bush/tree. i wonder if the hubby will let me get a bert or bernadette. he'll probably come up with a wayyy catchier name. i'll keep you posted.

i also ran across these cake plates again today. i had seriously researched them when i was planning the wedding, but couldnt bring myself to cough up the $ for them for the wedding. (i wanted 5.) but they still call to me. i think i will have to indulge in just one for myself as a girly treat. someday. they are found here...clara french

Okay - apparently i'm post-a-palooza today....

first: my absolutely adorable nephews.

My (in my humble opinion) AMAZING croissant bread pudding. holy cow, me and c took one bite and were like, "uh oh, we gotta get this out of the house." so i took it to school.

My dog sitting on my dental decks (study tools for stupid boards). i think even he was sick of me studying. not that you can really see (iphone pic and all), but i made those pillows he's squishing! actually, i've made all the pillows on our couch. perhaps another post..,

last month c and i went to a dear friends' wedding in LA. super fun. super gorgeous. and seriously special, for lack of a better word. both their families could public speak like no other. her brother made up a rap song about the 2 of them. the groom sang to the bride. HE SANG TO HER! she said something that made me cry. it was just a big ball of emotion. so....

80s Christmas bash

so.....me and C were thinking about having a christmas party. We were all talking about it at the last brunch i hosted for some friends. Said friends thought a lord of the rings christmas party theme would be fun. and i think it may be...but we started thinking and playing with the theme. all (well, most) girls love a good reason to dress up. and i am always up for a theme party. anyways....watching dwts and donnie and kym had a paso doble in an 80s theme. they had a great 80s outfit recently...seen here.

and i realized that (i'm pretty sure) most people can pretty easily get in theme with an 80s christmas. so....80's Christmas bash 2009 was born. (sorry friends who wanted lord of the rings....i am dying to wear leg warmers!).

the rest of the pics were some 80s attire research i just came across. also - read this.... The key to achieving the 80s look, regardless of the specific costume you choose, is excess. It was after all the decade of excess – the me decade, the greed decade. So don’t skimp or be weighed down or held back by your 90s and 00s sensibilities – go for it. Add the extra layer of blush or blue eyeliner, go for another spray with the Aqua Net, and pile on another couple of bracelets. Moderation is for other decades – there are no points for class, subtly or understatement. The 80s look is about color, volume, and abundance.

i feel like the year people get married, one of the wedding pics is usually the xmas card. but as a card recipient, i sometimes feel like its weird that someone is sending me their wedding picture months after their wedding. so we went with a "family" pic instead. course, some may think its weird that we consider ourselves a full fledged "family" just cause we have dogs. and, while i want to have a wedding every year, its unlikely that we'll do it again so this would be a good opportunity to use those priceless pics. but no, this felt better

books and FRESH

hi all..

so.....lately i've been spending a ton of time NOT on the internet. partly due to these 2 books which were awesome thrillers. i highly highly recommend them if you are looking for a page turner with a bit of a moral message.

but yesterday, the hubby and i went for some yummy crab from joe's stone crab (*****wayyyyy different than joe's crab shack) in caesar's palace mall. then we went into 'fresh'. last year i had received some sugar scrub for christmas that i adored. i ran out and have only seen it at this fresh place. usually, i wouldnt spend an arm and a leg on products, but the guy took us around the store and let us try all the products and gave us a bunch of samples and we were sold that we MUST indulge in this decadent sugar scrub. so we indulged. i want to be buried in it. it smells divine, it feels divine. mmmmmmmm

but one of the samples was this black tea "mask", which is actually just a sort of night cream. since we are in the desert and i'm the driest lady in town, i tried some last night. its delightful. it smells good and my skin is like buddha. i'm such a sucker for products.

So i watch HGTV like its my job. a serious addiction. candace olsen has been my favorite with david bromstad as a close second. and lately, david has been creeping up on the scales for me. He's funny, and he always brings a wow. and i love his cast, danielle and ian and clare. anyways - i was just watching taped colorsplash from last night and david did my FAVORITE room ever. i'm saving it so i can remember it when its moving time (8 months!). but i cant find pictures online of it! its yacht inspired. gorgeous. absolutely fabulous. swoon...here's a crate n barrel chair he used. and there was a fabulous couch, with a mirrored coffee table and navy and grey with pops of yellow. so yummy. someday - hgtv should have photos...until then Thank goodness for dvr!

so i was flipping through hostess with the mostess tonight and ran across this....

basically, the couple planned a party for they 20 week dr's appt where they found out if it was a boy or girl..

THey sent out invitations...

and asked everyone to wear pink if they thought it would be a boy, and blue if they thought it would be a girl...

They revealed the sex to the guests by putting an appropriate color gumball in the middle of cupcakes and had everone bite at the same time to find out....

I have a lot of pregnant ladies around me right now (my brother and sister-in law had this adorable bundle of joy on Tuesday!)

And what a fun party idea! Only - i'd challenge the couple to have the dr (or sonogram tech) to write the sex on a card that they could open during the party with all their loved ones....a big reveal for them too!

speaking of cooking, me and the husband decided to do our own version of julie and julia....we'd make all the recipes in the barefoot contessa cookbook over a series of 2 months. and then we modified, only the recipes we'd actually eat. and we picked 2 barefoot contessa cookbooks. we started this weekend with white pizzas and pork loin. white pizzas are good! but lots of garlic and i try to stay away from it when i have patients (my day job includes leaning over people in close proximity to their smell tools....). pork loin is also good. but too much leftover. i think we'll thin slice the meat and make bbq pork sandwiches today. doesnt that sound good?

so....i used to live in LA. i have tried all the LA hotspots for cupcakes that there were at the time. I tried Yummy cakes, I tried Sprinkles, I tried Susie cakes, i tried cake divas. I tried whatever cupcake store was in the mall at the 3rd street promenade. I can say, without a doubt, that my favorite was the red velvet at Susie cakes. its divine. which doesnt even begin to talk about their whoopie pies. if you are ever in brentwood (or newport beach or calabasas), you must go to susie cakes and eat a whoopie pie. but ever since i started becoming involved in married land, i kept hearing about vanilla bake shop. and this weekend, i was in santa monica and i stopped to give it a whirl ( i believe if you keep hearing about awesome baked goods and you are in the vicinity, you must try). holy moly. heaven...all packaged in a lovely little cupcake. new fave: meyer lemon raspberry cupcake. mmmm. they put lemon curd IN it. mmmm.... so i was looking them up online tonight and i noticed that the pictures and names of the founders were people i had seen before....but where? and then it came to me....i had spied their wedding on the knot when i first started planning my own wedding. (they had a gorgeous orange and white affair...if this is really the same couple.). and the main pic on their wedding page is a sorority sister of mine. small world.

anyways .... new fan of vanilla bake shop.. if you love baked goods at alll....i highly highly highly suggest you try it.

HOly cow its been awhile since i posted. was in amagansett for a week with my family (beautiful!) and then in san diego for the last 10 days. i had a 39th wedding anniversary party for my parents which has taken most of my other energy. except that i've also been knee deep in a seriously awesome book, atlas shrugged. which is definitely now a part of my absolute favorite book of all time collection. so....i'm recognizing that i'd love some pics of all of the above to post. damn camera is broken. for those that know me though, just befriend my uncle jeff on facebook....he's got a ton of amagansett pics if you care to see.

but....i wanted to say that i'm totally obsessed with sunday suppers. great new concept. awesome pics. wanna go to brooklyn to participate. awesome. awesome awesome. but being as i wont be in brooklyn any time soon, i'm so glad they blog. they put together these amazing dinners (like moroccan theme, seasonal Market theme) , and they give us, the reader, almost every detail of how they pulled it all off. the decor, the recipes, etc. sigh....true love.

This first pic is from Lynmar winery in the russian river valley. it may be the most beautiful place i've ever been. We were up there for my girlfriend's birthday weekend.

the grounds were GORGEOUS. and they werent just growing grapes, there was EVERYTHING you could think of growing. it's a must go if you are up there ever.

so i havent posted for a while....i've been waiting for the husband to help me get my pics off my camera from last weekend's wine tasting extravaganza. but he was in california. then i see him and my camera ran out of batteries. so .... later. someday i'll learn to take care of my own technical difficulties. but he's always so good at them!

so...

here is simply a list of 5 things i love. for the sake of blogging.

1. morning coffee. best cup i've ever had at home was from bad ass coffee company (in-laws brought it back from hawaii). you can find it here.

Best cup at a store was from Cafe Luxxe in Santa Monica on Montana. Some ladies from Palmetto (a divine body lotion -type store on Montana) told me and my girlfriend we had to go to Luxxe for the coffee because it was that good. it was.

2. blogs- all eye candy blogs about decorating or party throwing (this includes weddings), or knitting, or crafting.

3. health care. the human body. how it works. how to make it work better.

4. wine. i'm in a sparkling wine phase right now. or white wine with sparkling water spritzers. i also love wine tasting, wine country. wine and cheese. or chocolate. you name it.

5. going shopping with my mom or the girls and wandering through cute stores and stopping for coffee and chocolate... for hours. which also is why i love traveling...its the wandering through cute shops and stopping for local flavor that i love about traveling. so this last one is a 2-fer.

i was watching Myles of Style last night and Kim (the host/decorator/DesignStar Winner) made these pendant lamps that were super cool. So i went online to try to figure out directions, and i found this! as a renter, with no owning in site, i think this might be the coolest thing ever! except fabric is super un-cheap i've learned from my recent quilting experience. still...

Design Dilemma: You rent and can't paint, but want to bring color to your apartment's bland walls.
Kim's DIY Solution: Fabric wallpaper that doesn't damage walls

1. Buy inexpensive, colorful fabric — enough to cover at least one wall.

2. Wash the fabric first so the color won't transfer.

3. Apply liquid starch onto the wall with a paint roller. Note: The starch adheres better if the paint isn't an eggshell finish.

4. Smooth your fabric onto the wall and apply a second coat of liquid starch on top.

5. Let it dry — instant wallpaper.

6. When it's time to move on, dampen the fabric with a sponge and peel it off.

FINALLY - i got the real wedding pillow back. Sweet mel made this, as well as the others. but this fun one was THE RING PILLOW.

on a different note, i experimented making chocolate chip cookies with smart balance light and splenda/sugar blend today. cookies look terrible (they spread out and ran into eachother), but holy cow, they taste great!!!!!! i used extra salt and vanilla. and it turns out you are supposed to use less splenda/sugar per amount of sugar that a recipe calls for, and i didnt read that direction till later. but they taste good. like might forgo dinner and eat cookies good. mmm

so recently, my mother-in-law gave me a book called summer blowout by claire cook. it was a riot. a super quick read, and the author is so funny. the main character is who i would be inside in all my neuroses. anyways - was fun.

so finished that and i wanted a GOOD book, (good for mind and soul.) so i was reading some other blogs out there....i think cup a jo. but maybe it was another blog. and i heard that The history of Love was great. just finished it. it WAS great. i have to re-read though. the story is woven pretty intricately, and falling asleep while reading left me lost on a couple parts. but all in all - so good. just felt for the characters and wanted to cry a couple times. loved it. couldnt put it down.

i gotta get a library card. this reading binge i'm on is expensive!

next up....chasing bohemia. and if anyone is reading this and loves any particular book....please tell me about it!!!

These are the flowers i picked up this weekend. In my new GORGeous Kate Spade vase. Just love flowers. in cool vases is even better.

Then there's another pillow my sister in law made for our wedding. This wasnt the one we used, but i loved it too. the bow got a little hammered in transit (its a well traveled pillow), but we can fix that later. the real pillow will come out in a couple days.

and then there is my pathetic excuse for vegan carrot cake cupcakes. they all fell! i have no idea what i did wrong. on the plus side, they taste AWESOME. and i'm no vegan. but again, my super cool sis in law sent me VEGAN CUPCAKES TAKE OVER THE WORLD. and i'm a big fan. i cant believe it but vegan cupcakes are super yummy...no joke. margarita are my faves. i read a blog sometime this weekend that reminded me about the book so i whipped it out and voila.... yummy albeit ugly sunken carrot cake cupcakes. i didnt do vegan frosting. i kinda feel like its sacrilige to screw with cream cheese frosting.

So - i'm totally obsessed with DWTS. And consequently, i love Gilles Marini. and anything that involves ballroom dancing. I'm like a little kid....i start watching the show like a normal human on the couch. but by the end...i'm usually doing box steps around the living room or flicking my wrists. i 've been told by jen that my god-daughter does something similar. she's 7.

anyways - i have to admit that while i used to dislike lady gaga (1st time i saw her was on 'so you think you can dance' almost a year ago and i thought she was weird.) but as of tonight....i love her. oy. i love that all her outfits are SOOO out there...but somehow...sexy? and her songs make me wanna dance. and as stated before...i love anything dance (except hip hop, not a huge fan of it anymore). oh - they are about to reveal the winner....gotta go

so - i found myself with almost 2 hours for lunch today. instead of staying at school and getting some much needed labwork done....i went to the forum shops. it always makes me smile to go look at the pretty kitchen and house stuff at anthropology. which brings me to my new purchase....

then i realized i had no cash and i had valet parked. not tipping was not an option, so i thought it would be prudent to go to the vosges chocolate store and at least get some chocolate to offer the valet. he appreciated the cookie i brought as tip. yes...i did say cookie. VOSGES NOW MAKES COOKIES! and they had samples so i tried them and they ROCK. swoon. again. i tried the naga - which also happens to be my favorite chocolate of theirs. and bar. now in a cookie.

best weekend vacation

So me and C headed up to san fran this weekend for Jen's 30th, but instead of rushing up and back on friday night, we decided to make a weekend out of it. super way to go.

friday night was fun-filled awesome company and food. read previous entry.

saturday was sleeping in, walking all over SF, shopping at union square, wine tasting at the ferry building while lunching on bread and salami, getting our own stash of yummy cheese, bread, proscuitto, and coconut cake (all from different vendors at the ferry building), then dinner and dancing (yes...dancing! to live music!) at the tonga room. the tonga room, by the way was super interesting. live music from a band in the boat in the middle of the room. a rain storm occurs about every 10 or so minutes around the band. and every sort of person from every walk of life imaginable, all in one place. and a random dance floor in the middle of it all. i'd definitely advise a look see at this place for those looking for one of those touristy, look-see kind of nights. oh - we watched slum dog millionaire in the hotel, and confessions of a shopaholic. didnt love either. i may be the only person alive not obsessed with slum dog, but maybe i have just heard too much about it before actually seeing it. or i lack the appreciation for quality film. either way...

today was sleep in again. then drive to sausalito for brunch at fred's (best french toast...they deep fry it. gluttony at its best.) and wandering through art stores and a vintage jewelry show in sausalito. walked along the water. perfect weather (about 80degrees, which is perfect to me.) then got ice cream. and home. so nice....sigh.

we are in san francisco for my bestie's 30th. her adorable husband rented out a room at an AWESOME restaurant last night in san carlos called piacere. i'll post pics as soon as i get them.....super fun evening. although i never got to share my favorite Jen story. hmmm...as if there's just one after knowing someone for 25 years. i still dont know what i would share. probly that she rules and she is super woman. and we used to eat SO much food on our way home from junior high (pizza, donuts, and milkshakes....all on the same walk. no wonder we werent exactly svelte then. jen is now...super mom who runs.)

and we are off to the ferry building for some wine and cheese tasting. it is to be our workout too..walking there. so fun. post later!

I have a patient that has VERY GRACIOUSLY offered to make me a quilt. i love the idea. my job is to get her a bunch of fabric. not sure if you've every gone looking, but there's WAY too many awesome fabrics out there. couldnt sleep last night and got stuck on print and pattern for hours. found the above 2 fabrics on sale at contemporary cloth. love that website. and have NO IDEA which color scheme to go with for the quilt.

also found the spend 50 thing and thought i should spread the good news! go by your local shop!

So the bottom right pic - i have no idea where i got it from, but i think from stylecarrot.com. my new favorite blog. but i think this may be my next art project. getting a ton of all the leftover fabric i have from a million different things, and making roses in a shadow box or tray of sorts. doesnt that sound like fun?

I've also been scoping out J CREW today. they have sooo much fun stuff. jewelry and summer shirts. sigh....i promised i would stop spending money like a maniac after the wedding. and its after the wedding now. boo.
